The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, must leave his position. This was ordered by a court in Rio de Janeiro that based its ruling on considering invalid an agreement between the entity and the public ministry that altered the rules for his election shortly before being appointed in March 2022.
The court indicated that the CBF must hold a new election of authorities within a period of 30 days and appointed the president of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva, in Portuguese – STJD), José Perdiz, as intervener. Likewise, Rodrigues can appeal the decision to a higher court.

The possible consequences of departure of the president of the CBF
FIFA warned in a letter to the CBF that any “influence by third parties” on its members could lead to “possible sanctions.” Although it seems like a distant possibility, if the governing body of world football considers that this ruling of justice is an interference of this type, it can dictate severe sanctions.
One of the consequences could be the exclusion of Brazilian teams from international competitions and alarm bells are already ringing at Fluminense. The Copa Libertadores champion is about to participate in the Club World Cup that will be held in Saudi Arabia from December 12 to 22.
Beyond this, it remains to be seen if Rodrigues’ departure also has an impact on the negotiations for the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti to the Brazil team. The CBF boss was in charge of the negotiations and guarantees that he has an agreement with the Italian coach, who for his part never officially confirmed it.
