Flamengo is seeking reinforcements for the attack following the serious injury of Everton Cebolinha during this transfer window. Among the various names that emerged behind the scenes, one caught attention: Dutch striker Memphis Depay.
According to information gathered by Coluna do Fla, some intermediaries informally offered Depay to Flamengo, but the negotiation stumbled over financial issues. Depay reportedly requested a monthly salary of around R$ 2.5 million, an amount that the red-and-black club deemed unfeasible.

Depay asked for a high amount from Flamengo
Depay, 30, has been without a club since leaving Atlético de Madrid in Spain in June of this year. Since then, the striker has been seeking a new team to continue his career, but his high salary request has complicated negotiations.
In Flamengo’s case, the management did not even open formal talks with the player, precisely because they considered the requested amount too high. For Flamengo, paying a salary of R$ 2.5 million is “crazy,” the report revealed.
Stalemates in the negotiation
The possibility of having Depay in the squad would please Flamengo in terms of technical reinforcement, but the salary issue is a significant obstacle.
The Rio club has a salary cap established by the football and financial departments, and the amount requested by the Dutch striker is well above that limit.
According to Coluna do Fla, Flamengo would even consider starting some negotiations if Depay agreed to lower his salary request to amounts more in line with the club’s financial reality. However, so far, there have been no advancements in that regard.
Depay is not alone in the market. After leaving Atlético de Madrid, the player has been approached by other teams, but the high cost of his salary has deterred potential interested parties. However, if the player changes his strategy and decides to lower his request, new opportunities may arise.
