The game
The first moves of the game were made by the home team, which after just 2 minutes created an opportunity with a cover shot by Villasanti looking for Suárez inside the area – but the ball ran too far and ended up in the hands of goalkeeper Walter.
But on the other hand, the visitors did not stay back and went on the attack, threatening at times. Initially, they had a chance for a corner kick, in which the ball was lifted inside the area, but Caíque pushed it away. Afterwards, Rikelme was launched on the left, invaded the area and kicked, to the great defense of the Tricolor archer.
Grêmio responded in kind and almost opened the scoring in a great play – after a good exchange of passes, João Pedro received and crossed to Luiz Suárez, who finished first, sending it over the goal, after 10 minutes.
Another good Tricolor move happened after a quick counterattack: João Pedro was triggered on the right, ran to the middle in front of the area and rolled to Franco Cristaldo, who sent the goal, but Walter saved it.
Soon after, Suárez was launched on the left, dominated and tried to finish, but the opponent’s defense cut through the bottom line. Afterwards, it was Reinaldo’s turn to finish in a curve, from outside the area, looking for the right angle of the goal, but the ball went out.
With 24 minutes played, Cuiabá arrived with danger, with a low cross in the small area, but Caíque made a good defense and cut the shot.
It was in the 30th minute of the ball rolling that Grêmio achieved effectiveness and opened the scoring with Suárez. The number 9 worked with Pepê, who returned it inside the area. The Uruguayan dominated and kicked low, swinging the nets and putting Tricolor ahead on the scoreboard.
The second half was more balanced, with the visitors threatening in the opening moments. From the left, Deyverson finished, dangerously sending it into the net, from the outside, after 11 minutes. Then, Wellington Silva received it inside the area and finished for Caíque to defend in the center of the goal.
But when Tricolor arrived, it was effective. At 17′, after a cross from Reinaldo in the small area, Everton Galdino went higher than the defense and, with a header, sent the ball to the goal – Walter defended and, on the rebound, the ball hit Rikelme and died in the back of the net.
In the next minute, Suárez took it first and finished towards the goal, looking for the third of the Grêmio fans – the archer defended.
In the final stretch, Tricolor had a foul on the far left: Reinaldo put it in the area, but Walter flattened it.
