In an event held in the early afternoon of this Thursday, in São Paulo, one day after the end of the competition, the midfielder and striker received the Silver Ball as highlights of their positions. As if that wasn’t enough, the Uruguayan, Grêmio’s top scorer this season, was voted the best player in the Brasileirão, receiving the coveted Bola de Ouro (Golden Ball):

“This is an award that I share with the team, with all the people who work there at CT”, declared the Uruguayan, highlighting that every sacrifice has its reward, making an allusion to the effort he made during the year and to the family who always supported.

Luis Suárez is the fourth Grêmio player in history to receive the distinction. He joins defender Ancheta, awarded in 1973 (first year of the Ballon d’Or); Paulo Isidoro, winner in 1981; and Lucas Leiva, who received the trophy in 2006.
