Girona won 3-0 at home against Rayo Vallecano with two goals from Savio and keeps alive its dream of fighting for the LaLiga title. The Catalan team was required to win to keep up with Real Madrid, and with the three points, they reclaimed the second position temporarily taken by FC Barcelona, trailing the top by six points.

Despite the significant scoreline, the match was not decided until the end. Ukrainian Viktor Tsyhankov opened the scoring at 52 minutes after a first half marked by a lack of accuracy.

The team led by Míchel was superior on the field and secured victory in stoppage time. In the 91st minute, Savinho entered the box and scored with his left foot for his first goal, and four minutes later, he broke away on one side and skillfully finished low to complete a brace.

Savio’s goal tally in LaLiga

Savio, 19 years old, has already scored seven goals this season in LaLiga and is a key player for the surprise team. His performance caught the attention of several top European clubs, and eventually, Manchester City secured his services starting from the next season.

For Girona, the victory ends a streak of three consecutive winless matches, including two back-to-back losses. Their next match will be away against Mallorca, in a rematch against the team that knocked them out of the Copa del Rey in the quarterfinals.
