São Paulo superstars Lucas Moura and James Rodríguez showed great promise in the match against Flamengo yesterday (13). The first one scored for the first time since his return on a beautiful play while the second made his debut and, despite showing lack of rhythm, was able to produce important plays.
The match ended 1-1 at the Maracanã Stadium, where Rodríguez probably showed himself to the world in the 2014 World Cup. He played 36 minutes in the game and is an option for the decisive one against Corinthians next Wednesday (16) as São Paulo needs to win to advance in the Brazilian Cup.
“Physically I’m fine, of course the team played very well, they deserved to win, but it happens. Now it’s head high, because Wednesday has a very important game”, said James.

Birthday boy + Beautiful goal for Lucas
Lucas Moura celebrated his 31st birthday with a beautiful goal that opened the scoring sheet in the match against Flamengo. The attacking midfielder received a pass in the middle, left Thiago Maia’s contact and was surrounded by four Flamengo players. From the edge of the area, he risked a low finish and the ball went into the corner of Matheus Cunha’s goal.
“Very happy with this first half, happy with the goal, scoring again with the São Paulo shirt is a very special feeling, even more so on Father’s Day. Send a big kiss to my children, Miguel and Pedro, my wife Larissa and my father Jorge. But a difficult, complicated game, and I scored a goal in an individual play, which is my characteristic,” he said.
“It’s hard to imagine this scenario, but since I returned to São Paulo I’ve had this game in my mind, it would be my focus to start playing. And precisely against Flamengo, at Maracanã, a stage like this. Very happy to be back, playing, scoring goals,” complemented Lucas.
