Bahia looked like the better team and came close to winning at some point.
Hours before the match started in Morumbi, a group of fans from São Paulo protested at the stadium door asking for the departure of the board and coach Fernando Diniz. Regardless, the game went on as planned.
São Paulo started the game better than Bahia and lost a big chance after four minutes, when Igor Vinicius crossed, and Pablo fumbled his shot in the box.
After that, Bahia grew in the game. In the 13th minute, Rodriguinho was shot down in the penalty area by Igor Vinícius.
After a VAR check, the penalty was given but Gilberto missed with Thiago Volpi making a great save.
Three minutes later, Bahia finally got their goal. A Bahia player received a beautiful throw from Rodriguinho to play on Volpi’s exit and it led to the opening goal. São Paulo tried to get the equalizer but the first half ended that way.
In the second half, São Paulo brought in Luciano. Bahia, in turn, did not change their formation. Bahia came close to doubling their advantage but Eber wasted the chance.
São Paulo didn’t give up and eventually got their equalizer. On the basis of insistence, not quality, the hosts managed to equalize five minutes from time. Reinaldo hit the corner, Gonzalo Carneiro deflected, and Luciano headed in. In the final stretch, the two teams created chances to win, but the score remained as it was.
São Paulo returns to the field on Sunday to visit Sport for the fifth round of the Brasileirão. Bahia, on the other hand, plays on the same day against Ceará, in Fortaleza.
