São Paulo defeated Águia de Marabá 3-1 on Thursday (May 2nd), at the Mangueirão, in Belém (PA), in the first leg of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil. Juan (2) and Luiz Gustavo scored the goals for the team.
The Tricolor’s first good chance came in the 17th minute, when Luiz Gustavo hit the post with a low shot. On the rebound, Juan also hit the post, but the referee signaled offside. In the 31st minute, Wander, from the rival team, hit a shot in Patryck’s face, and after a VAR review, was sent off. Soon after, the opponent opened the scoring with a rare lucky shot. However, São Paulo reacted quickly. In the 36th minute, Galoppo crossed for Juan, who headed it firmly into the net, and in the 40th minute, in a similar play, it was Erick who hit the cross for the striker to score his second goal in the match.

In the second half, the Tricolor continued to put pressure on the team from Pará. With possession of the ball, the São Paulo team sought associations through the middle of the rival’s defense, shots from outside and plays through the sides, and that’s how in the 17th minute, after a cross from Moreira, Luiz Gustavo scored a beautiful shot to give the final score to the match.
The return leg will take place at MorumBIS, on May 22nd, at 9pm (Brasilia time), with São Paulo able to lose by up to one goal difference to advance. It is worth mentioning that the Tricolor is the current champion of the tournament.
The team’s next match will be on Sunday against Vitória, at the Barradão, for the Brazilian Championship, also at 4pm.
