The game was valid for the 14th round of the Brazilian Championship. The goal scorers were Brenner and Gabriel Sara. Brenner bagged a brace.
In addition to the victory, this was the first time in 10 games that the Tricolor went without conceding a single goal.
In the first half, Atlético-GO had the first chance of the game at Morumbi. Ze Roberto tried his luck from outside the area but sent his shot over the goal. Afterward, São Paulo had two incredible chances but wasted theirs as well.
The first half looked like it was ending in a stalemate until Brenner scored after a shot by Daniel Alves in the second minute of extra time.
In the second half, Atlético-GO pushed up front in search of an equalizer, but it opened lots of spaces at the back for more organised São Paulo.
In the 64th minutes, Tricolor scored the second goal via by Gabriel Sara who missed an open net in the first half. He advanced through a counter attacking play, cut in the middle and hit a low precise shot from outside the area giving his team more advantage.
In the 70th minute, Tricolor extended their lead, again with Brenner the scorer of the first goal. Tchê Tchê started the move on the left, tipped Sara who crossed to the striker to increase his side’s lead to 3-0.
The visitors tried to react but São Paulo were not to be denied a win on this occasion.
For their next outing, São Paulo will play against rival Palmeiras, at Allianz Parque. Atletico-GO will play against Red Bull Bragantino, at the Olympic stadium, in Goiânia.
