São Paulo announced the sale of one of their biggest stars on Friday as youngster Brenner completed a move to MLS side Cincinnati.
The 21-year-old did not train with the rest of his teammates on Thursday and will also not partake in Tricolor’s next game against Ceará on Wednesday.
Brenner joins Cincinnati on a five-year contract in a deal believed to be worth around $13 million (R $ 70 million).
As part of the deal, São Paulo will also get another $ 2 million in bonuses once the Brazilian plays up to 10 games for his new side. To go with, Tricolor will also hold a 20% stake in a future sale for Brenner provided it exceeds the $13 million value.
One major fact about this move is the fact that it is a record fee for a player moving from South America to North America.
Cincinnati can count themselves lucky given that a host of European giants were once interested in Brenner at some point.
The 21-year-old has been immense for São Paulo this term with 22 goals to his name across all competitions. That tally makes him their top scorer. Himself and Luciano were key names in attack for São Paulo before they saw oversaw a poor run of form that saw them lose their lead at the top of the Brasilerao.
In total, Brenner leaves São Paulo with 27 goals and four assists from 74 games. The youngster’s departure for the MLS comes at a good time for the Brazilian side given their recent financial struggles and limitations.
