The game was already decided in the first half of the match with goals from Madson, Marinho, Jobson and Daniel scoring for the away side.
The home side were more clinical in front of goal taking their chances abruptly even after having lesser shots on goal.
Mano Menezes’s team, on the other hand, lost another game away from home putting them in a difficult position fighting to be away from the relegation zone.
In the first 45 minutes, the game was balanced. Both teams had equal possession of the ball as Santos and Bahia differed by depth in attacks and aimed at taking their chances in front of goal. With maximum strength in attack, Madson opened up the scoring 10 minutes into the game. Marinho followed through with a goal of his own before the half hour mark in the 26th minute. Daniel then replied two minutes later, to put his side in the contest after going down 2 nil.
In the 37th minute, Jobson Souza Santos gave his side the third goal of the day following a free kick situation.
In the second half, Santos slowed down while Bahia increased their tempo, creating lots of chances even before the first minute. Gilberto‘s shot was only good enough to force a save out of João Paulo.
Later into the game, Bahia invested more in aerial balls and crosses after finding it difficult to penetrate the home side’s defence but all attempts failed.
Santos will return to the field next Wednesday to face Ceará for the return game of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil while Bahia receives Melgar from Peru on Thursday for the return game of the second phase of the Copa Sudamericana.
