Carlos SánchezMarinho and Kaio Jorge scored for Peixe while Jorge Recalde did both for Olimpia. Santos took the lead, took the turn, but recovered to win it thanks to the goals and also the great performance (once more) of goalkeeper João Paulo. The victory also guaranteed coach Cuca’s team the leadership of Group G of the tournament.

The first half alone saw four goals in total. Carlos Sanchez gave Santos the lead via a penalty in the 14th minute but the lead didn’t last long.

Eight minutes later, Jorge Recalde pulled one back and added his second 11 minutes after to turn the tie for Olimpia. Just like Santos, the lead for Olimpia didn’t last long and Santos grabbed their equalizer through Marinho in the 40th minute.

The second half started with both sides pushing for a winner but it would be Peixe who came out victorious. A goal from Kaio Jorge in the 58th minute proved to be the winning goal in the five-goal thriller.

Santos rises to 13 points, with four wins and a draw, and can no longer be reached by anyone in Group G. Olimpia takes five, in third place, and needs to win their remaining games if they still want to have a chance of classification.

Santos returns to the field next Sunday to face Goiás in a game valid for the 13th round of the Brazilian Championship. For Libertadores, Peixe only plays on October 20, against Defensa y Justicia in Vila Belmiro, for the last round of the group stage.
