In 2024, Santos find themselves for the first time in the Serie B, the second tier of Brazilian football. In this context, the Peixe’s front office is reportedly looking to organize club friendlies abroad to generate more income and expose its brand to the rest of the world.
With that in mind, playing an exhibition match against Boca Juniors at La Bombonera has emerged as a possibility. According to Globo Esporte, the idea was presented by Argentine event organizing company Proenter upon learning of Alvinegro’s interest in playing overseas.

Although it has yet to be defined, the date could be between June 26 and July 3. By then, the 2024 Copa America will already be underway, so the Xeneize would be free from any official matches. However, the Serie B will still be in full swing.
Santos reportedly intend to show up with their regular starters to receive a better financial reward. The flights and accomodation would be covered by the promoting company, so the event would mean pure profit for the club.

Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks as the teams look to set a date that makes sense for both.
Santos and Boca Juniors met several times throughout history. In 2021, they faced each other four times, first in the 2020 Libertadores semis (Peixe won 3-0 on aggregate), and then in the 2021 group stage, with one victory for each side.
These historic clubs also met twice in the Libertadores final: Pelé led Santos to victory in 1963, while the Argentine side gained the upper hand in 2003.
