Kaio Jorge and Soteldo scored from the penalty spot in the first half while Giovanni Augusto pulled on back in the final 45 minutes. Coxa remains in the relegation zone.
Santos were dominant and took advantage of the space left in defense by Coritiba in the opening five minutes.
Kaio Jorge anticipated a cross directed from the left and placed it into the back of the net giving Wilson no chance. Coxa had lots of possession of the ball after on but failed to capitalize on the ball at their feet. In the 16th minute, Muniz had a headed chances saved by goalkeeper João Paulo.
In the 27th minutes, a penalty was awarded to the away team, when Pituca hit Hugo Moura’s arms in the box, and with the help of the VAR, the referee was able to award a penalty. Soteldo rose to take the shot and scored to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Coritiba had a lot of pressure being two goals down. Cuca tried to sit back and wait for the counterattacks and exploit the other team’s defenses.
Neilton, who was brought on, lost a great chance also to score after scrambling his effort. Finally, the goal came in the 74th minute when Giovanni Augusto placed his shot on the left angle of João Paulo’s goal. With Jorginho’s changes, nothing much happened as the game ended 2-1, in favor of the away side.
Coritiba lost the chance to win and escape the relegation zone in the Brasileirão. On Saturday, they visit Ceará, in Castelão while Santos will face Fluminense on Sunday at Maracanã.
