A goal-scoring machine who went down in the beautiful game’s history as one of, if not the best striker of all time, Ronaldo Nazário continues to be a prominent personality in world football. Therefore, the Brazilian legend is continuously asked about the current state of the sport and what he thinks of the game in the modern era.

Back in 2022, O Fenômeno was asked by The Guardian who would he choose between Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi. But instead of picking just one of them, he mentioned other legends who, in his opinion, belong to the group of the best in history. Curiously, he didn’t mention Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo Nazário names the best players in football history

“I think there is a very, very special group where you have Diego (Maradona), Messi, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Pele, Van Basten, Ronaldinho,” Ronaldo Nazário said.

“I would include myself,” he added. “Let the fans say, let them debate it in the bars. But you can’t rank them, can’t compare generations.”

Ronaldo recorded an impressive 352 goals in 518 games throughout his fantastic career between 1993 and 2011, including 62 goals in 98 caps with the Brazilian national team.
