Internacional returned to victory after twelve matches. On Wednesday (14), in a postponed game of the Campeonato Brasileiro, the Colorado team defeated Juventude by a score of 2 to 1 at the Beira-Rio Stadium.

After the victory, coach Roger Machado defended Enner Valencia. The striker missed a penalty in the game against Juventude and faced criticism from Inter fans. Valencia was substituted at halftime.

“I made a point in the meeting with the players to say that Valencia is very important to us. He doesn’t abandon anyone. The absence of victories is over, the goal drought will pass, and we will help him,” said Roger Machado.

“The fact that Valencia feels he owes, with his weight and ability, at this moment for the club, he can’t contribute and feels frustrated and responsible. Before talking about the victory, I emphasized his importance,” he continued.

“The goals will come back. We are responsible for him to start performing well again, making the necessary contributions, but also giving care and support,” he added.

Roger Machado approved of Internacional’s performance against Juventude. The coach highlighted the team’s evolution and their ability to react to turn the match around at Beira-Rio.

“Today’s match, despite all the losses, was the most consistent so far. We have been noticing the evolution. I have been telling the players. I tend to be a realistic professional,” he stated.

“There has been an improvement in the performances in recent games, even without victories. We are looking to expand the window for good performances,” he concluded.
