It’s official: Roger Guedes, the 26-year-old striker who has scored 21 goals this season, is leaving Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. He has accepted an offer from Qatari club Al-Rayyan and will leave soon.
The Brazilian club tried to keep him by offering to extend his contract, but Guedes chose to take on this new challenge in the Middle East. The amount of the transaction is not yet known, but Corinthians owns 40% of the economic rights of the player.

“I really thought about staying, there was a request from Duilio too, he made proposals to me, but it was my desire to go there with my family, I made that decision, I was very happy here, but it was a proposal that I had to think about. I tried to stay for the final game, but the window closes on the 18th, it was a request from them that they want me to go now. Then I tried again to stay until the 16th, but we couldn’t, I tried to help Corinthians, but we couldn’t, they have their debut on the 17th, so that’s it, it’s the best for me,” he said to SporTV.
Guedes leaves behind him a strong mark. In 126 games with the club, he scored 43 goals, including 31 at the Neo Química Arena, becoming the stadium’s top scorer.
With the transfer window looming, the Brazilian club must now consider new signings to fill Guedes’ departure. For his part, the player is preparing to fly to Qatar, where he hopes to shine in the local championship.
