Real Madrid restored their hopes of qualifying for the round of 16 with a crucial 2-0 victory over Inter Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium on Wednesday night.
There was relief for Eden Hazard who finally scored his first Champions League goal in a Real Madrid jersey. Elsewhere, Brazilian forward Rodrygo came from the bench and made an immediate impact with a goal to double his side’s lead in the 59th minute.
The youngster connected to a cross from Lucas Vazquez just 32 seconds after coming off the bench and fired the ball to the top corner of the net. However, the ball was deemed to have come off the foot of Inter man Achraf Hakimi on the way in and hence it was recorded as an own goal.
Zidane will still no doubt be pleased with Rodrygo’s Champions League cameo as it continues the 19-year-old’s impressive form in the competition.
The latest goal for the Brazilian means he has been now directly involved in nine goals from nine Champions League games so far. He has six goals and three assists to his name. He also bagged a goal from the bench in the first leg of this clash in Spain.
Despite the absence of Benzema and Ramos, Real Madrid were the better side on the occasion and Inter barely threatened their opponents.
Inter were further handicapped in the game when Arturo Vidal saw two quick-fire yellow cards and was given his marching orders just before the end of the first half.
The victory takes Real Madrid up to seven points and second place in Group B and restores their hopes of qualification to the next round.
