The victory of Real Madrid against Leipzig was no ordinary match for Rodrygo. The first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 saw the Brazilian reach 200 appearances in the white jersey. Therefore, the 23-year-old player couldn’t hide his happiness.

“I am very happy. In my wildest dreams, I never imagined reaching 200 matches at 23 years old. It’s a dream to be at Real Madrid every day. I am very happy and want much more,” stated the forward, via Agencia EFE.

Rodrygo makes history while shining

While his teammate and compatriot Vinicius Junior has played 247 matches with the Merengues, the former Santos player is chasing other club legends who amassed a significant number of appearances by the age of 23. At that age, Manolo Sanchís reached 251, while Iker Casillas accumulated 284 and Raúl 334 matches. Rodrygo, who turns 23 on January 9, has time to surpass those figures.

Furthermore, the winger is enjoying a great season in Spain. Not only is he, alongside Federico Valverde, the player with the most appearances under Carlo Ancelotti’s command this season (35 games), but he also ranks second in the team’s top scorers list with 13 goals, just seven behind Jude Bellingham.

In total, the Brazilian standout has scored 50 goals and provided 39 assists as a player for the merengues.
