Real Madrid striker Rodrygo will wear the mythical number 10 shirt of the Brazilian National Team at the Copa América. The Real Madrid player revealed the pride of being the heir to the shirts of greats like Pelé, Zico and Rivaldo, some of the legends who have worn the iconic “Amarelinha” (The Brazilian national team jersey). On Monday (24th), Brazil will debut in the continental competition against Costa Rica, at the Sofi Stadium, which will also be the venue for the next World Cup.

“It’s an honor to be wearing the heaviest shirt in the history of football. I know it’s a huge responsibility and I take it on. I know that every day I have to be better, the eyes of the whole world will be watching me with that jersey. I’m preparing to continue doing good things and to live up to it,” said Rodrygo, who is also a partner of Vinicius Junior in the Real Madrid attack.

“As we say in the locker room, we’re going to share the responsibilities. Everyone will take on their role so that the group can become stronger and stronger. Only in this way will we be able to reach our goal,” added the striker.

Rodrygo made his debut for the National Team in November 2019. He came on as a substitute in the defeat against Argentina, in Saudi Arabia. Since then, he has collected 49 games with the Brazil jersey, 17 goals and 8 assists. In the interview held this Saturday (22nd), the striker said that “the time has come” for Brazil to win the Copa América title. The tournament is being held in the United States, where Brazil won the fourth championship in 1994.

“Winning this title is important for this generation that is just starting out. We are a generation with very high quality players, but I think we lack a title, we need to really prove our quality,” said the striker.

“So we are in a special place and we will continue to do everything we have been doing well, improve the things that still need to be adjusted and then we have everything to win this title,” completed the Real Madrid player.
