After several weeks of anguish, Rodrygo was finally reunited with the goal. With the assistance of his compatriot Vinicius Junior, the Brazilian opened the account for Real Madrid in the 2-1 victory against Braga, in the duel corresponding to the third round of the group stage of the Champions League. Jude Bellingham, also assisted by Vini, ensured the Madrid victory, while Álvaro Djaló scored a goal for the home team.

With this goal, Rodrygo ended a streak of 12 games and 881 minutes without scoring. The 22-year-old player had not scored since the 2-0 victory against Athletic Club on the first day of LaLiga 2023/24. He went through difficult weeks, in which his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s eleven was questioned, and even the player himself was frustrated by his position on the field.

The Champions League, the perfect place for Rodrygo

Rodrygo’s return to scoring could not be in another competition. Although it is important for Madrid to be able to perform in all competitions, the Champions League obviously suits them better than any other tournament. In fact, 16 of his 39 goals with the White House were for the continental competition.

With the recent shout against the Portuguese team, the former Santos not only scored for the first time since August 12, but also reached Vinicius Junior and Roberto Carlos as the Brazilians who scored the most times for Merengue in the Champions League. Thus, he left behind Ronaldo Nazário (15).
