The Brazilian National Team debuted in the Copa América with a disappointing result, drawing 0-0 with Costa Rica. The other favorites to win the tournament all debuted with a victory, Argentina beat Canada, Uruguay beat Panama and Colombia triumphed over Paraguay.

In addition, the team led by Dorival Júnior did not have a good performance on the field, unlike the friendlies against England and Spain, when they played well and managed to draw with both teams that are very strong in the European and world scenario.

Rivaldo fires against the Brazilian National Team

The former player of the Brazilian National Team and number 10 of the pentacampeonato mundial conquered in 2002 spoke about the match between Brazil and Costa Rica. At the 2002 World Cup, the Brazilian National Team steamrolled Costa Rica 5-2 in the group stage of the world tournament. Here’s what Rivaldo said about the debut of this year’s Copa América:

“It’s disappointing that the victory didn’t come, but we saw Brazil playing strongly, creating plays. But, when you don’t win against a team considered weak like Costa Rica, which has fourteen players playing in their own country, the press criticism appears and the fans start to doubt the team. However, I saw many positive points, the team wanted to win all the time and created chances, but lost many opportunities,” he said in an interview with Betfair.
