Since his arrival on the Canebière, the Brazilian has quickly established himself as a centerpiece of the Marseille team. His experience and his quality of play have energized the left lane, bringing a crucial offensive dimension to the coach’s system. He has become a real pillar of the Olympian defense, playing in all of OM’s matches so far, actively participating in the attacking phases and delivering precise crosses.

A return to favor in the Brazilian selection

These performances, under these new Marseille colors, quickly attracted the attention of the new Brazilian coach, Fernando Diniz. At the start of September, the full-back was called up for the first time since a certain Copa America final loss to Argentina where despite himself, Lodi was guilty of the only goal in this final. A mark of recognition which therefore testifies to a strong comeback from the side.

A winning choice

Renan Lodi’s agent, former Lille player Tulio De Melo, revealed the motivations which pushed the player to join Olympique de Marseille. According to De Melo, Lodi was immediately attracted by the idea of joining Marseille club, particularly for the prospect of playing in European competitions within a big club. He was also charmed by the unique atmosphere that reigns in the Marseille city. Also, according to De Melo, Marseille was the most attractive option among all the offers presented to Renan Lodi.

He explains: “He was immediately seduced by the possibility of joining OM, to play in Europe in a big club, a magnificent atmosphere. Marseille was more attractive than all the other options he had. I told him, if you go to OM, if you have good matches, you go to the selection, it’s obligatory. Renan always makes sporting choices”.

Finding the Brazilian selection was therefore a more than fair prognosis, thus confirming that the choice of Lodi was not only daring but also judicious.
