Striker Rayan and coach Phelipe Leal lamented the 3-2 defeat suffered by the Brazilian team against Iran, this Saturday (11), at the International Stadium in Jakarta, for the debut of the U-17 World Cup. They commented on the difference in Brazil’s performance in both halves of the match.
“We weren’t able to do in the second half what we did in the first. Now we’re going to raise our heads to face New Caledonia, then England, and look for two victories”, said Rayan, scorer of the goal that opened the scoring for the Amarelinha.

“Two different halves. A first half with our style. In the second half, we didn’t know how to manage the pressure and the result. Mentally we ended up losing our balance. I understand that, for the next game, we need to control our anxiety a little more and understand that we are in a World Cup. With the result of 2-0, what happened today cannot be allowed to happen”, highlighted Phelipe Leal.
After the goal from number 7, the team added another goal to Zamani’s own goal at the end of the first half. Brazil went into the break having largely dominated the first half of the game. In the second half, Iran reacted and won the victory over the Brazilians.
In the next match, the coach hopes that his team can maintain the level of performance in the first half against Iran throughout the 90 minutes against New Caledonia, the opponent who was beaten 10-0 by England also this Saturday.
“The expectation is that we can get our heads straight, play a game as balanced as it was in the first half and this consistency will bring us closer to victory”, he stated.
In the second round of the U17 World Cup, the Brazilian team will face New Caledonia next Tuesday (11), at 6 am (Brasília time), at the International Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. With the result, Brazil occupies third place in Group C. They qualify for the knockout stage as leader and vice-leader of each group, in addition to the four best third-placed teams.
