Fernando Diniz had announced the 23 called up for the double date in October well in advance, but an unforeseen event arose that forced him to modify the list of the Brazilian team. Raphinha will be out for several weeks, so David Neres will take his place for the matches against Venezuela and Uruguay for the South American Qualifiers towards the 2026 World Cup.

The Barcelona attacker was replaced in the 37th minute during the victory against Sevilla, and shortly afterwards the Catalan club reported that he suffered a tear in the femoral biceps of his right leg. Although his exact return date is unknown, in Brazil they already know that they will not be able to count on him until the international break in November.

David Neres returns to the Seleção

Neres is coming off a great season in Portugal, where he became league champion with his team. In his first year with “Os Encarnados”, he recorded 12 goals and 16 assists in 48 games in all competitions. The player who emerged in São Paulo arrived in Lisbon in exchange for 15 million euros, from Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine. Previously, he had shone for five years in the uniform of Dutch Ajax.

Although it is great news for the 26-year-old footballer, representing his country is not something new for him: he scored a goal in seven appearances with the national team and was part of the 2019 Copa América champion team.

Now, he will try to earn a place among those who take the field in the next double date of the Playoffs. Brazil will host Venezuela in Cuiabá on Thursday the 12th at 9:30 p.m. (local time), and five days later they will visit Uruguay in Montevideo from 9:00 p.m. (local time).

After having beaten Bolivia (5-1) and Peru (1-0), Diniz’s team leads the standings with six points, like Argentina.
