The family homes of Paris St-Germain players Angel di Maria and Marquinhos were burgled during the game against Nantes on Sunday.
Di Maria was substituted in the 62nd minute of the French Champions’ defeat to Nantes as PSG’s sporting director, Leonardo, was spotted by TV cameras making contact with Mauricio Pochettino just moments before the substitution.
The Argentine boss then informed Di Maria of the worrying situation and he immediately left the stadium in tears.
French outlet RMC report that the incident had turned “extremely violent” with Di Maria’s wife Jorgelina and their two young children.
According to Marca, Di Maria’s family were held hostage in the house, but were thankfully unharmed.
A similar incident was also being reported that Di Maria’s team-mate Marquinhos was targeted on Sunday, with his parents’ house being raided.
The Brazilian’s wife confirmed her in-laws were OK after the shock of being targeted, adding that “nobody was hurt“.
L’Equipe reported on Monday that PSG will fund 24-hour security for its stars in wake of the spate of robberies.
The Parc des Princes outfit surrendered their lead to lose 2-1 at home to Nantes, conceding twice after the break to remain three points behind Lille at the top of Ligue 1.
And Pochettino admitted that the shocking incidents meant football wasn’t at the front of their minds during half-time.
He said: “There is the disappointment of having lost three points, but the group was concerned about things that you are probably already aware of.
“Situations outside of football exist and can explain the second half.
“It is not an excuse, but it prompted a drop in energy levels. At half-time, we were talking about things other than football.”
The incidents are the latest in a worrying spate of attacks on the posh homes of PSG stars after Sergio Rico, Mauro Icardi, Thiago Silva and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also suffered robberies while playing for the Parisians.
The current breach will be extremely difficult for the Di Marias after their house was also targeted by burglars in 2015 while he was playing for Manchester United.
