President Lula receives FIFA delegation in Brasília

President Lula met with members of the FIFA Official Delegation who came to Brazil for a visit to the facilities that could host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027.

The Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, and the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, also attended the meeting. The FIFA group will be at Arena Pernambuco on Friday (23).

The Women’s World Cup in Brazil

  • Brazil is a candidate to host the upcoming World Cup;
  • Two other joint bids (United States/Mexico and Belgium/Germany/Netherlands) also want to host the event;
  • FIFA will announce the winner on May 17 in Thailand.

Support from the President of the Republic

During the visit in Brasília, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for Brazil’s candidacy to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027.

Leading the national bid, CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues also participated in the event.

“I am confident that our country, with its football tradition and the existing stadium infrastructure, has the full capacity to host this event at a time of growth for women’s football in Brazil and worldwide. It will be a moment of great visibility to boost women’s football,” said President Lula.

“This support from the Federal Government is crucial for us to host the best FIFA Women’s World Cup in history in 2027,” said CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues.

Visits to Brazilian facilities

Since Tuesday, FIFA delegates have been visiting various facilities in the country. Rio de Janeiro was their first stop. On Wednesday, representatives of the football governing body inspected several sites in Brasília.

The FIFA delegation is led by New Zealander Sarai Bareman, FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer, and includes ten more delegates. On Thursday (22), the group visited Salvador. The inspection tour concludes on Friday (23) in Pernambuco.

Two other joint bids (United States/Mexico and Belgium/Germany/Netherlands) also want to host the event. FIFA will announce the winner on May 17 in Thailand.
