On November 17, 2019, the Brazilian team celebrated the U17 World Cup title. Four years later, the Brazilian team celebrates qualifying for the round of 16 of the competition and keeps its dream of winning the fifth title alive.
What they have in common are the 2-1 victories for Brazil – in 2019, against Mexico, and in 2023, against England – and the presence of Phelipe Leal on Brazil’s coaching staff.
In 2019, he was assistant coach to Guilherme Dalla Déa and is now the coach of the Brazilian Under-17 team. With this Friday’s result (17), his team secured a place in the round of 16 and will face Ecuador on Monday (20), at 5:30 am (Brasília time), at the Manahan Stadium, in Surakarta, Indonesia.

After the defeat to Iran in the World Cup debut and the 9-0 defeat of New Caledonia, Phelipe emphasized the U-17 team’s ability to overcome challenges and praised the classification.
“Football is all about results. The most important thing is not the final result, it’s how we react to the circumstances. The team showed their mental strength and their quality of play. I think we deserve to advance and we reached the very strong final phase.”
The coach also made a point of praising the fans who were present at the Jakarta International Stadium, in Jakarta, to watch the match of the last two U17 world champions – Brazil in 2019 and England in 2017.
“Fantastic. I want to congratulate the Indonesian fans. This is the future of world football and being able to feel the energy and see the level of motivation of the fans gives us extra motivation to show all our quality and potential.”
