Flamengo advances to the quarterfinals of the Brazil Cup with the win against the Hurricane. The red-black team from Rio de Janeiro had already beaten the away side in the first leg 1-0 at the Arena da Baixada. Cariocas return to the field against Atlético-MG on Sunday while Athletico takes on Fortaleza on Saturday.
There are only two matches left for the draw of the quarterfinals of the 2020 Brazil Cup. So far, six teams have qualified for this phase. They are: América-MG, Ceará, Cuiabá, Flamengo, Internacional and São Paulo. Juventude faces Grêmio and Palmeiras faces RB Bragantino on Thursday.
In the next phase, a new draw will be made with all clubs in a general pot and will be able to face each other.
Pedro scored once again in the Flamengo shirt. He scored the first two goals of the match in the 23rd and 33rd minutes of the first half. With this, he reaches the 20-goal mark of the season, isolating himself in the red-black artillery of 2020.
The video assistant referee went in action twice in the match. In the 28th minutes of the first half, a penalty was cancelled in favour of Athletico-PR. The referee awarded a penalty for a foul made by Léo Pereira on Carlos Eduardo. However, the video showed the Flamengo defender got the ball and didn’t commit a foul.
Thiago Maia scored a beautiful goal in the second half, but the move was also cancelled due to a slight impediment by Isla during the goal build up.
In all, it was a decent win for Flamengo.
