Soccer in Paris 2024: Competition Format
The women’s soccer tournament will feature 12 teams divided into three groups of four. The top two from each group, plus the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals, where the “knockout” format begins until the grand final.
The Quest for Gold
Brazil enters Paris 2024 with high expectations. The national team is seeking their first ever Olympic gold medal, after winning two silver medals in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. The spot for the Olympic Games was secured with the victory in the 2022 Copa América Femenina, won for the eighth time.
The United States are the biggest winners of the tournament, with four titles, while Canada are the current Olympic champions, after winning in Tokyo 2020.
Spain, the current world champions, will make their debut in women’s Olympic soccer tournaments in Paris 2024.
