According to the aforementioned sources, the Olympic committee of each country assigns cash prizes to athletes who win medals at the Olympics.
The Brazilian Olympic Committee, for example, pays around 350,000 reais for each gold medal, which converts to about 62,000 US dollars (USD) for the gold medal. In contrast, the U.S. Committee pays only 37,500 dollars for the gold medal.
