Bragantino needs a miracle if they were to turn the result around and advance to the next rounds. Raphael Veiga, Wesley and Luiz Adriano scored the goals that takes Palms one step to their goal. Hurtado was the only goal scorer for Bragantino.
In the first half, Verdão showed a new character in their style of play, with a lighter and faster team, Palmeiras imposed themselves before the rivals and dominated the play throughout. With Ron, Zé Rafael and Wesley, the away side got on the mark easily. It took the visiting team just 5 minutes to find the net with Raphael Veiga, another 13 minutes later, Wesley doubled his team’s advantage, and Luiz Adriano rounded it up putting his team further ahead.
With quick moves, few touches on the ball and accurate finishing, Palmeiras’ first half was summed up edging them closer to the quarter finals.
Felipe Melo was a noteworthy presence in the midfield, improving the teams output and giving greater quality in launches.
In the second half, Palmeiras dropped their tempo allowing the home side to take charge of the game. With the entry of Hurtado, Verdão defence was constantly troubled, because of his aerial presence in creating chances and leading the attacks. Palmeiras had to switch tactics and rely more on counter attacks. In the 83rd minute, Hurtado was able to get on the mark in a well-placed shot giving Weverton no chance. The game ended 3-1.
Palmeiras hosts Atlético-MG at Allianz Parque next Monday. Also on Monday, Bragantino will travel to Porto Alegre to face Grêmio.
