Palmeiras are in advanced discussions to sign Danilo Barbosa from Ligue 1 outfit Nice. The 25-year-old has been a long-term target of the club and has been on their radar since the start of 2020.
It is likely possible the midfielder will agree a deal to join Palmeiras on loan until the end of the year. Alongside that deal, a purchase option is also likely to be included at the end of the contract. Talks are already at an advanced stage between the clubs but some final touches are yet to be made regarding the player and the hierarchy at Palmeiras.
Having played under Abel Ferreira during his time at Portuguese side Braga, the Brazilian midfielder is well familiar with the current Palmeiras boss.
The player also has the full backing of the Palmeiras board. In Brazil, he starred for Vasco and in Europe he also played for Standard Liege and Valencia.
At 25, Danilo Barbosa will come in to add depth to a Palmeiras midfield that already boasts names like Danilo, Patrick de Paula and Gabriel Menino. The player could also come in as one for the future if any of the aforementioned names are sold by the club.
After focusing on the decisions of the Copa do Brasil, the directors of Palmeiras return their planning to assemble the squad for the 2021 season. Asides the likely signing of Danilo, the club are also planning to make reinforcements in some other positions. Up next on the priority list is the push to sign at least one more striker.
