Verdão kicked off their campaign with a draw against Fluminense and were once again held to a 1-1 draw by Goias on Saturday night.

At Allianz Parque, Palmeiras started the game on top and already came close to scoring in less than a minute, with Gabriel Menino kicking.

The move was an indication of what would be the dominance from Palmeiras in the early stages of the game till they got their opener.

Despite all the defensive resilience from Goias, it was only a matter of time till they were undone.

Just in the 17th minute, a corner kick by Gabriel Menino saw Gustavo Gómez climb high and open the scoring for Verdão.

Just five minutes from the end of the first half, Goias will go on to get their equalizer. Rafael Vaz took a free kick from the edge of the area and the ball was strong and went under the wall with no chance for Weverton who was helpless to stop the goal. The second half continued with both sides pressing for a winner but the game ended as it was.

The head coach admitted at the press conference and took all responsibilities for the goal scored by Goiás

“I asked the players to go up on the foul, because he hits the ball very well. He was very smart, he hit from below. Then you have to give credit to the player. Are you going to criticize Weverton then? The barrier? No. You have to criticize me, ”said Luxembourg.

Palmeiras are currently in 11th place and will face Athletico-PR on Wednesday. Goiás remain in 16th place and will take on Fortaleza a day after.
