Palestine will pay tribute to Brazilian soccer legend, Pelé, by renaming a soccer stadium in his honor. The initiative was launched by Jibril Rajoub, Minister of Youth and Sports of Palestine and Chairman of the Palestinian Olympic Committee.
The Al-Khader Stadium, located just 5 kilometers from Bethlehem, will henceforth be known as the Pelé International Stadium Al-Khader. The official renaming ceremony will take place on May 14 in the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino during his visit to Palestine.

Sports cooperation between Brazil and Palestine strengthened
The sporting relationship between Brazil and Palestine intensifies with this initiative to rename the stadium in honor of Pelé. According to Alessandro Candeas, Brazilian Ambassador in Ramallah, the idea was born during the 2022 World Cup, where the Brazilian community followed the matches with Minister Rajoub. The presence of a small caravan of the Brazilian community living in Palestine is expected, as well as the participation of other personalities.
Palestinian Minister Rajoub expressed his desire to establish a partnership with Brazil to develop sports in Palestine, especially football. Brazilian diplomat Candeas stressed the importance of this cooperation, aimed at professionalizing sports in the country and to provide opportunities for young people. The objective is to strengthen the Palestinian men’s and women’s teams by benefiting from Brazilian expertise.
With approximately 6,000 Brazilians living in Palestine, this initiative marks an important step in promoting sports and cultural exchange between the two nations.
