With the season just approaching the halfway mark, we will be taking a look at Brazilians in the running to perhaps win the coveted award this season.

The tournament that awards top scorers in European competitions has some Brazilian names, among them: Vinicius Júnior (Real Madrid) and Arthur Cabral (Basel). João Pedro (Clagliari), recently called up for the Italian national team, is another Brazilian on the list. Next, we will comment on the players to be part of the Brazilian team.

Arthur Cabral – Basel

In the current season, the best ranked Brazilian in the Golden Boot is Arthur Cabral, from Switzerland Basel, who occupies the 17th place, with 19.5 points (13 goals).

Despite being unknown to some Brazilian fans, Cabral was the surprise Tite name in the last call-up against Colombia, Venezuela and Uruguay, for the World Cup qualifiers. While he did not see any game time on the pitch, it’s only a matter of time before he is given a run-in with the national team.

Ironically, with no space at Palmeiras de Felipão, he left Brazil just three years ago and has distinguished himself by delivering top-notch performances. At the age of 23, his good performances in Switzerland already draws the attention of European clubs from the main leagues on the continent that have already made attempts to sign the player from Basel. Much recently, the likes of AC Milan (ITA) and Hertha Berlin (Germany), have already registered interest in the in-form forward.

So far, there have been 102 games for Basel and 63 goals scored, making a respectable average of 0.6 goals per game.

Vinicius Junior

The Real Madrid striker, at the beginning, did not have an easy life. Until last year, the Spanish media criticized him for not presenting consistent performances. However, this season, the athlete fell in favor of Madrid and became one of the best of the year.

Under Ancelotti, the 21-year-old has upped his game and is starting to justify why Real Madrid coughed out so much money to sign a youngster from Flamengo back in 2017.

Vinícius Júnior occupies precisely the tenth position in the ranking of the best evaluated athletes of the five main national championships in Europe (English, Spanish, Italian, French and German) in 2021/22.

His average grade this season is 7.71, exactly the same as Italian midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, from Roma, with whom he shares the last place in the top 10.

In the current season, he has already scored 10 goals, five assists, in 22 games, making this his best individual tally since he joined Real Madrid. At the moment, he is playing like a man on confidence and we can expect to see him score even more at this rate.Time will te

ll which of these players will be among the title holders at the 2022 World Cup, but the lack of other names on the list is worrisome.

Remembering that next year will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the penta, and whether you like it or not, the lack of great Brazilian names in football continues.
