The Brazilian outift announced the deal with the Belgium side on Thursday afternoon. The 26-year-old moves to Brazil on a free contract and will remain at Vasco until 2022 at least.
As announced in the statement on Vasco’s website, the São Januário team will have a majority percentage of Carlitos’ economic rights, while Belgian side Standard Liege will be the holders of the other party. However, the exact percentage each party in question will retain was not disclosed to the public.
The Brazilian comes in with lots of experience and will add depth in attack for Ramon Menezes. He naturally plays as a right winger but can be deployed on either sides of the flanks. Hence, his versatility will prove to be an asset for Vasco as well.
Carlitos started his career at Desportivo Brasil, in São Paulo, and played for four other Brazilian teams, including Internacional and Guarani. The player, however, has spent most of his career playing for European clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen, Estoril and Vitória de Setúbal, where he played on loan last season.
This season, Carlitos was a regular for Portuguese side Vitória de Setúbal on loan where he amassed 2815 minutes the whole season. Those minutes covered a total of 36 appearances across all competitions where he scored five goals and recorded an assist as well.
In the span of all the nine clubs he has played for his entire career (including loan stints), the 26-year-old has made a total of 147 appearances, scoring 24 goals and supplying 11 assists.
However, he is yet to get a call-up from the Brazilian national team.
Carlinhos é mais um reforço para a temporada.
