“You can be sure that I will do everything possible so that the club has a successful season,” Neves said in a video posted on social media.

The midfielder arrived in Recife on Thursday night and made sure to avoid press, people and the public in general.

The player also did not give any comments whatsoever to anyone, but gave a quick word to the club’s staff.

“I didn’t expect it. I am very happy, after a troubled month that I spent. So I am sure that I will be happy with the fans and with the Sport shirt.”

The playmaker had his contract with Gremio rescinded on Monday after publicly falling out with president Romildo Bolzan amid the club’s poor start to the season and his own indifferent form.

So far, Neves has made seven appearances for Brazil’s national team. He has also had spells with FluminenseFlamengo and Germany’s Hamburg over a career spanning more than 15 years.

Sport Recife are currently 15th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings with three wins from their first 10 matches.

Jair Ventura will be eager to add an experienced midfielder to his ranks soon enough. Sport will take on Fluminense on Sunday as they look to get back to winning ways soon enough.
