Alex Telles is the latest new name at Manchester United. The left-back has been on the radar of a host of clubs but the Red Devils appear to have won the race for his signature.
Given United’s recent struggles in defence, the need for defensive additions couldn’t have been overemphasized. In the Premier League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have already conceded 11 goals in just three games so far.
Telles becomes the Red Devils’ second summer signing after the arrival of Donny Van de Beek from Ajax.
The Brazillian international cost United €17m. He joins the Old Trafford outfit on a four-year deal with an option to extend for a further year.
At that price, Telles could prove to be a bargain buy for United given his experience. He is also skilled both in defence and on the offensive side of things.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to sign a new left-back to challenge Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for a starting spot. He might have now gotten himself even better in someone that could go on to be a starter in the United lineup.

Alex Telles said to the club’s website after completing the move: "To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour. You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here."
"I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt."
