Neymar would very much like to play for Arsenal, according to former French star Emmanuel Petit. The Brazilian, still today the most expensive player of all time, has been with Paris Saint-Germain since 2017, but rumors suggest he could leave the club this summer. Despite outstanding performances and undeniable quality, Neymar failed to achieve the goals he set with the French giants.

His colossal emoluments and the repeated failures of PSG could therefore cause a summer restructuring, thus leading to a possible departure of Neymar. Petit touted a move to the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners appearing to be a growing side, with young players exceeding all expectations this season.

In an interview with Genting Casino, he said: “I think Neymar would suit any big club. If he ever joined Arsenal, I would love it, and I think he would be delighted too. I am sure he would appreciate the technical style of play and the football offered by Arsenal. He would be happy to play alongside young players, although he is already very mature himself.

“After everything he went through at PSG, as well as the tears shed at the World Cup, he would be keen to get revenge. I am convinced that he would be happy to join Arsenal if such an opportunity presented itself. He could play on the left side as well as on the right side, and due to his ankle injuries, he could be used in rotation.

“If he ever joins Manchester United, I would be delighted for them and for the Premier League. They already have Rashford and Sancho, who can occupy both wings, while being able to take turns, which would make it easier to integrate Neymar into the game cycle.”

Arsenal currently enjoy a stable attack with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, who are often started by Mikel Arteta. However, despite signing last summer, doubts remain over Jesus’ abilities to be a prolific goalscorer capable of propelling his side to the title.

Neymar, a versatile player who exceeds 20 goals per season

Neymar, 31, has passed the 20-goal mark five times since arriving in Europe, although he hasn’t managed to do so since 2019. The Brazilian also possesses the versatility to play up front or on the sides, giving any manager several options to field him in his starting XI.

Manchester United have also been mooted as a possible destination for Neymar, especially after a cryptic response from Erik ten Hag when asked if he was considering signing the Brazilian striker. Rivaldo, Neymar’s compatriot, has also spoken out in favor of a transfer to Manchester United.
