New Santos president Marcelo Teixeira revealed a particular request from Neymar during a broadcast interview. This request concerns the temporary withdrawal of the club’s number 11 jersey, an initiative similar to that already undertaken for the number 10 worn by King Pelé.
Teixeira shared details of the phone call he received from Neymar, highlighting the player’s explicit request: “Yesterday I received a call from him and he said: ‘President, you have already withdrawn the number 10 until the return to the first division. So, also remove number 11 until I return’. I was already happy, full of hope. I will submit this to our group to study the matter. We are waiting for Neymar to return. He has already given me so much hope. Let’s hope that his return to the first division and that of Neymar is quick. We will temporarily remove the number 10. Only a new crack will wear it when we move up to the first division. And we will also wait for the return of our crack with number 11.”

This announcement comes after the previous decision not to use the number 10 jersey during the Série B: “During the Paulista, we will normally play with the number 10 jersey. In the Brazilian championship, until we have returned to the level which it suitable, we will not play with the number 10 jersey.”
Teixeira finally concluded by expressing the club’s determination to return to the first division and to maintain this symbolic restriction as long as this objective is not achieved: “Since this year we had the tribute to King Pelé during the championship, we will continue this mission. We will return to the first division. Until we get back to it, Santos will not use the most glorious jersey in its history, the number 10 jersey.
