With the score 1-0 in favor of Uruguay thanks to a goal from Darwin Nuñez, Neymar clashed with Uruguayan midfielder De La Cruz. Following this contact, the Brazilian number 10 appeared to violently twist his left knee. Immediately overcome by pain, he collapsed on the lawn.
A very worrying diagnosis for Neymar
The Brazilian team doctors then quickly intervened to take care of Neymar. In tears, he had to leave the field on a stretcher without putting his foot on the ground, visibly very relieved. Replaced by Richarlison, medical examinations will have to determine the exact severity of his injury.
Transported directly to the locker room, the toll for Neymar appears to be severe. He will return to Brazil the next day to take additional exams in Sao Paulo. This new injury comes only a few months after his long absence of 6 months due to a sprained ankle contracted in 2019.

Despite the support of his teammates disappointed by his exit, Brazil could do no better than a 2-0 defeat against Uruguay, ending its record streak of 37 games without defeat in the qualifiers. Neymar will certainly miss several weeks of competition and his state of physical health raises questions again.
