It was no surprise that a host of Bayern Munich players dominated the Champions League team of the season.
An exciting campaign came to an end on the 23rd of August as the Bavarians secured a 1-0 win over PSG in the final hosted in Lisbon.
Neymar and company came close to lifting the title but were outrun by a dominant Bayern Munich side. It also meant PSG lost the chance to complete an unprecedented quadruple last season.
A panel from UEFA chose the team of the season on Friday as released on their website.
In defence, Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk was the surprise addition. He was the only player whose team failed to make it to the quarter-finals at least.
In midfield, Kevin De Bruyne and Houssem Aouar made the cut while Bayern duo Muller and Thiago were other notable names. Brazilian midfielder Marquinhos also made the cut.
Upfront, another Bayern duo in Lewandowski and Gnabry were deserved names while PSG duo Mbappe and Neymar also got in the mix. The final two spots went to Lionel Messi and Raheem Sterling. There was no slot for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Neymar ended the Champions League season with three goals and four assists in seven appearances.
