Once again Vinicius Juniors was rebuked with racist insults. In the preview of yesterday’s derby at the Metropolitan stadium, a group of Atlético de Madrid fans sang: “You are a monkey, Vinícius, you are a monkey.”
This was reflected in videos uploaded to social networks and the Spanish media, which gave an account of the climate of tension that existed in the run-up to the round of 16 match of the Copa del Rey. The match finally ended with a 4-2 victory for the Colchoneros against Real Madrid.
In this context, a journalist from the public channel Televisión Española was also a victim. When he was working, several ice cubes hit him on the head, causing an injury.

One year after another attack against Vini
The Brazilian winger was the subject of racist insults in several games last season, leading to a reaction from the LaLiga and Spanish authorities. This same week, the justice system filed a case for one of these events that occurred during a duel with Osasuna, as the perpetrators could not be identified.
But a case is advancing for what happened almost a year ago. On January 26, 2023, before another Copa del Rey derby, a doll simulating Vini’s hanging appeared on a bridge in Madrid. The Prosecutor’s Office requested four years in prison for the accused, identified as Atlético de Madrid ultras.
