With an exciting script, the Brazilian National Team won the gold medal this Saturday (4), in the penalty shootout against Chile. After the 1-1 draw in normal time thanks to Ronald’s goal, Mycael, known for his quality with his hands, scored the decisive penalty for Brazil, at the Sausalito Stadium, in Viña del Mar.

With the victory, Ramon Menezes’ team broke the gold medal drought that had been in place since 1987. This was Amarelinha‘s fifth football title at the Pan American Championships and the 200th medal of this edition.

In the five matches in the tournament, Brazil won four matches and drew just one. There were eight goals scored and one conceded.

The game

Against the home team, the Brazilian National Team entered the field in an unfavorable atmosphere, with the Sausalito Stadium packed and pulsating.

In the 16th minute, Chilean striker Aravena found freedom from outside the area and finished low, for Mycael to calmly save.

In the 27th minute, Guilherme Biro took a free kick in the area to Matheus Nascimento, who headed it aimlessly.

Chile narrowly missed opening the scoring in the 41st minute. Pizarro hit the post after a well-worked move.

At 43, Pizarro made a good move and passed it to Guerrero, who put Chile ahead.

Substituting for Marquinhos at half-time, Figueiredo almost opened the scoring for Brazil.

He received a pass from Matheus Nascimento and finished with a cross in the 18th minute.

The ball went very close to goalkeeper Cortes’ post.

After a corner kick from Figueiredo, Matheus Nascimento managed to reach the middle of the area, where Arthur Chaves was.

The defender also headed the ball, which reached Ronald to tie the match, in the 38th minute of the final stage.

With the score level, the match went into extra time, marked by ball disputes and without much inspiration from the teams. Penalties decided the gold medal winner.

In the penalty shootout, the Brazilian team won gold 4-2. Mycael saved one and scored the decisive penalty, to the champion’s tears of Ramon Menezes and the entire Brazilian delegation.

BRAZIL: Mycael; Miranda, Arthur Chaves, Michel (Gustavo Martins) and Patryck; Igor Jesus, Matheus Dias (Ronald) and Gabriel Pirani (Thauan Lara); Guilherme Biro (Kaio), Marquinhos (Figueiredo) and Matheus Nascimento. Coach – Ramon Menezes.
