Caio Henrique, Monaco’s left-back, recently expressed his disappointment at not being called up to the Brazilian National Team. Despite his impressive performances in Europe, he never had the opportunity to represent Brazil on the international stage. In an interview with Globo, he said he would agree to play for Spain if the opportunity presented itself.

Caio Henrique completed his third season with the french team, where he shone with remarkable stats. Indeed, he delivered a high number of assists, ranking among the best Brazilians playing in Europe. Despite this, he was never called up to the Brazilian National Team, which left him deeply disappointed.

“We always have the expectation when a list will come out. People get anxious when they know they are doing a good job, having a great time. But we know that these are the coach’s choices and we have to respect them. I don’t let myself be shaken by it. It’s a bit of a disappointment, because you always wait and feel anxious about having had a good season.”

Caio Henrique ready to represent Spain in the absence of a chance with Brazil

The player also has Spanish nationality, which opened up the possibility for him to represent Spain on the international stage. He claimed that he would be ready to take this opportunity if he didn’t get the chance to play for Brazil. He nevertheless retains a strong attachment to his country of origin and hopes to be able to represent the Seleção one day.

“We know that football is opportunity. Every player thinks about playing Qualifiers, a World Cup… If I don’t have the opportunity to do it for the Brazilian national team and Spain opens its doors to me, it’s my will. I have a great affection for the country. I got there very young and was able to mature as a professional and as a man. I will definitely accept.”

In addition, Caio Henrique underlined the positive influence of coach Fernando Diniz in his career. It was thanks to him that he was repositioned as a left-back during his time at Fluminense in 2019. This decision was decisive in relaunching his career and restoring his passion for the game.
