Gary Medel is no longer a Vasco player. The Rio de Janeiro club officially announced on Thursday (13) the termination of the contract with the Chilean athlete.
The 36-year-old player has finalized the transfer to Boca Juniors, from Argentina. Medel will sign a contract with the Argentine team until the end of the 2025 season. Through social media, the Chilean said goodbye to Vasco da Gama.

Farewell to Vasco
- In a text on social media, Chilean Gary Medel bid farewell to Vasco da Gama;
- The player has already been announced as a new signing for Boca Juniors-ARG for the rest of the season;
- Medel thanked the Rio de Janeiro club and said it was an “honor” to wear the Vasco shirt.
“To be worth it, it has to be with heart and soul, and it was! Dedication, grit and the love that this club and its fans deserve have never been lacking. Thank you to the entire team and all the professionals who welcomed me with generosity and humility,” the Chilean posted.
“Gratitude to all the fans who always welcomed me in a very warm and special way. I will take a piece of each of you in my heart! It was an honor to be part of the Clube de Regatas Vasco da Gama,” he concluded.
Boca Juniors has already announced the signing of the player. Medel returns to defend the Argentine team after 13 years.
Trajectory at Vasco
Medel arrived at Vasco last year and helped the team avoid relegation to the Brazilian Serie B. The player accumulated 34 matches for the Rio de Janeiro team, all as a starter.
Requested to leave
In recent days, Medel had been training as a starter for Vasco. But the Chilean told coach Álvaro Pacheco that he intended to transfer to Boca Juniors. Medel had also already spoken about the desire to go to the Argentine club to Vasco’s board.
