Ahead of the Conmebol Libertadores final, the stage is set for the grand showdown between Fluminense and Boca Juniors, an event scheduled for November 4th.

In anticipation of a significant presence of Argentine soccer enthusiasts flocking to Rio de Janeiro for the Conmebol Libertadores final, Mayor Eduardo Paes of Rio took to social media to issue a plea to Boca Juniors fans, urging them to maintain decorum during their stay in a way that might generate a controversy.

The mayor’s post highlighted the expected arrival of approximately 150,000 fervent “bosteros” in the city for the highly-anticipated match against Fluminense. He posted in Spanish,

“My God!!!! Don’t make too much of a mess, please, ladies and gentlemen bosteros! Thanks!”

Notably, in the passionate world of Argentine football, fans from rival teams, such as River Plate, often taunt Boca fans by labeling them “bosteros” (a joking definition for “those of the dung”), while Boca supporters affectionately refer to their River counterparts as “gallinas” (chicken). Will the Mayor get in trouble for this or will this be seen as regular bant amongst football fans?

Note the Conmebol Libertadores clash will kick off at 5 pm local Brasília time at the iconic Maracanã stadium. If the match ends in a tie during regular play, extra time will be added, and if parity persists, the outcome will be determined by a thrilling penalty shootout.
