Nino broke the deadlock in the 16th minute after connecting to a corner-kick from Nenê to give Flu the early lead.
Teenager Martinelli was the talking point of the game and had something to smile about as he got his first professional goals for Fluminense.
For both of his goals, he more or led had ‘assistance’ from the opposition defence.
For his first goal, the midfielder took a shot from outside the area which hit the bar, deflected on Tadeu and ricocheted back into the net in the 35th minute. Ten minutes later, he got his second in similar fashion as his shot once again deflected on the defense and went in to seal his brace.
In the 40th minute, the game could have been defined in a spectacular goal that Nenê came close to scoring.
The veteran spotted goalkeeper Tadeu off his line and sent in an audacious shot from midfield. The ball was headed towards the Goiás goal but eventually bounced in front of goal and narrowly went wide.
Fluminense had other chances to add more to their tally but the three goals already scored was enough to seal the victory.
With the result, Fluminense are up to 53 points and moved to fifth place in the league standings. Goiás remain in 18th position with 29 points and will need a miracle to avoid relegation this season.
For their next outing, Fluminense will take on Bahia next Wednesday while Goiás will host Atlético-MG the same day.
