Martinelli and Jesus lead Arsenal’s victory in the Champions League

The London team beat Lens 6-0 at home to secure first place and qualification for the round of 16

Arsenal qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League with style and elegance by beating French Lens 6-0, which was left out of the top European competition. Mikel Arteta’s team was already five goals up at halftime when playing at home thanks to an effective offensive in which his Brazilian forwards were key.

The scoring opened in the 13th minute thanks to German Kai Havertz, who received the ball alone in front of the goalkeeper after a header from Gabriel Jesus. Eight minutes later it was the former Manchester City himself, chosen as the best footballer of the match, who scored: he had the ball left at the door of the area, he coolly hooked it to leave the defender lying on the floor and crossed the shot.

The Gunnes party continued with a goal from Bukayo Saka, taking advantage of a goalkeeper’s clearance after a shot by Gabriel Martinelli, who was the author of the fourth, the most beautiful of the night. The Brazilian received as a left winger, went into the area after feinting twice in front of his mark and with little space crossed the shot.

The Norwegian Martin Ødegaard at the end of the first half and Jorginho, from a penalty, four minutes before the end of the duel, joined the goal festival. The London team added 12 points, and assured of being in the round of 16 pot as first in group B.

For its part, Lens came third with 5 points and will play for access to the Europa League round of 32 when on the last date they host Sevilla, who lost to PSV. With that victory, the Netherlands team also sealed its pass to the next round.
